An Amazing Sunday School Lesson

This is a story from a few years back, but I haven't had an opportunity to share it with very many people until now. I was teaching a Sunday School class at Northside, and one particular Sunday the topic was the crucifixion of Jesus. The lesson plan instructed me to have each child draw a picture at the beginning of the class. Then I was supposed to tape the pictures together to form a "curtain" to hang in the doorway of the classroom. The idea was that this paper curtain would represent the curtain in the Temple, which in turn represented our separation from God. The Bible teaches that the Temple curtain tore in half at the exact moment of Christ's death, indicating that Jesus had destroyed the barrier between God and us.

To help get the point across to the children, we were supposed to listen to a CD telling the story of the crucifixion, and then afterward, we were supposed to tear down the paper curtain in the doorway of the classroom. Well, I followed the lesson plan, right up to the part where we were listening to the CD. When the voice on the recording spoke the words, "Then Jesus died," I suddenly heard a rustling sound behind me. I turned around and saw that the bottom half of the paper curtain had suddenly dropped off and fallen to the ground. I don't know how much of an impact that made on the kids, but I for one was amazed.
